A word processor is optional with the client-server version of FUNDimensions. Its a full-featured program in its own right, and makes mail merge exceptionally easy, because you select fields and place them in your letters by clicking in a list, without ever leaving the FUNDimensions program, and without any need to export or import data.
This screenshot depicts the creation of a thank you letter, with the writer about to insert the data of the gift. When finished writing, the Print Merge command is selected and all the needed thank you notes will be printed. That's all there is to it. With this software, anyone can do mail merge.
For convenience, you may establish templates for use in the word processor, and direct FUNDimensions to open a different template for each module whenever the word processor is invoked. For example, if you have different thank you note templates for donations and memberships, you could set one of these to open depending on whether the word processor was opened from the Donations or Memberships modules.
The menus and toolbars are approximate in design to Microsoft® Word, so users of that program will adapt quickly to this software. To further enhance compatibility, the FUNDimensions word processor can open documents created in other programs, and save its documents into the formats used by these other programs. For example, if you prefer to work in Microsoft Word, you can write a merge letter in that program, leaving the database fields as empty spaces. Then you open the document in the FUNDimensions word processor, add the database merge fields, and print the letter. The following formats are supported:
The FUNDimensions word processor is also a capable tool for word processing tasks that don't need access to the database information. It leaves out a few of the functions in high-end products that most people never use, making the FUNDimensions word processor somewhat simpler than these other programs. You may find it preferable to your stand-alone word processor for your daily work.
