Getting Started

My intention with this blog is to create a dialog in which I may share and expand that which is extraordinary, for me, in the processes of developing FUNDimensions. It can be hard to find face-to-face contact to share and have that conversation, and sometimes, the insights need to be shared as they occur within the process of development, otherwise they are forgotten and lost. A blog is the most workable solution, and it has the benefit of allowing anyone, anywhere to participate.

Some of my concerns in starting this blog are:

  • I will be lazy and not post.
  • I will judge my experiences and insights in developing FUNDimensions to be too trivial or unimportant, and fail to post them.
  • You will judge my experiences and insights in developing FUNDimensions to be too trivial or unimportant, and think me a nerdy boor for posting them.
  • The blog will turn into some giant bitch session where users and would-be users berate me and my product.
  • The focus of the blog will shift to support, bug reports or feature requests. Some of this might work. I don't know.
  • I will love blogging too much and spend too much time doing it.
  • I'll start to think everything about the processes of developing FUNDimensions is important, acquire a pompous air in my writing, and write about boring stuff as if it mattered.
  • I am utterly inexperienced with blogging and will write poorly or make mistakes.
  • Something on this list or something unforeseen will generate an experience of "failure".
That is a pretty long list of concerns and there are probably others. It strikes me that "watching out" for things that might go wrong is a good trait to have as a software creator, especially software that is mission-critical like FUNDimensions. It might be a good idea to drop my guard a bit in this blog, though.
